Access UpToDate® through Centricity or Carecast and earn CME credit!

As part of Carpenter Library’s ongoing commitment to improve the quality of care we provide to our patients, we are pleased to announce that clinicians can access UpToDate directly through Centricity and Carecast and earn continuing education credit each time you research a question in UpToDate. See the UpToDate website for more information and frequently-asked questions.
  • From Centricity, use the “Lookup Problems” drop-down selection for UpToDate.
  • In Carecast, use the UpToDate button in the lower right of the base screen.
Each time you research a question using UpToDate through Centricity or Carecast, you earn .5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Several other types of CME credit are also available. Credit is accrued automatically. To see how many credits you have earned, select CME from the navigation bar in UpToDate. You may process your credits online and print your certificate at any time.

It’s important to remember that to earn CME/CE contact hours, you must access UpToDate through the patient record and you must register with UpToDate. Read the UpToDate CME Brochure(PDF) for more information.

If you have questions about how to access UpToDate please contact Julie James at Carpenter Library jujames@wfubmc.edu. If you have questions about how to use UpToDate, please contact UpToDate’s Customer Service Department at 1-800-998-6374.

Micromedex 2.0 is now available for both the web and for mobile access

Micromedex 2.0 provides direct web and mobile access to Micromedex drug information through a new user interface with a single search box.

New features include:
  • an interface based on clinician workflow patterns
  • enhanced search capabilities
  • special tabs for high-usage tools
  • compatibility with iPhone, iPod Touch, BlackBerry smartphones, and other mobile devices.
  • New search functionality allows for multi-term search, predictive text, synonyms and suggestions for alternate spellings.
  • New single search box on every page
  • Highly used features — such as dosing calculators, Trissel’s IV compatibility, drug identification, and drug interaction checking — have been pulled into separate tabs so they can be accessed and used quickly.
Also, Micromedex 2.0 also simplifies how clinicians see results. The new 360-degree view of results provides a complete picture of all available information about a drug or condition on a single screen — including drug summaries, images, consults, comparative efficacy information, labeled and off-label indications, treatment options, and more.

NEJM Linking Issue

We have received this notice from the New England Journal of Medicine about a problem with PubMed linking. You may still go directly to the NEJM at this link in the meantime. If you need assistance, please contact the Reference Desk at 336-713-7100 or email refdesk@wfubmc.edu

As part of our transition to our new website at NEJM.org, I want to let you know that article-level links from PubMed to the NEJM website have been temporarily removed while NLM updates the links to the new URL structure at the NEJM website.

When this process is complete the article-level links to the NEJM website will be restored.

ePocrates Online has been discontinued

ePocrates Online has been discontinued. We have had a two year free license to help them evaluate the web site as it was being rolled out, but now the beta testing period is over and we will have to pay for future access.

Over the last two years this resource has received good but not outstanding usage and its clinical content cannot compare to similar content in other Library resources such as UpToDate and DynaMed.

Pharmacological information can be found in Micromedex as well as LexiComp (through UpToDate) and the drug monographs in AccessMedicine and MDConsult.

There is still the free pharmacological portion of ePocrates available. Instructions on how to download it will continue to be found on our Mobile Computing web page.

If you have any questions please contact David Stewart at dstewart@wfubmc.edu or at 6-4181.
