Library Additions/Deletions

The Carpenter Library, along with other departments in the School of Medicine, has been asked to lower its operating budget over the next 18 months. In order to meet the requested goals, the Library has eliminated positions, cut travel, and will be cutting select subscriptions to journals, databases and books. The Library’s Collection Development Committee evaluates resources throughout the year and the decision to eliminate these resources is guided by how much each costs, how much each one is used, and how much research and the curriculum would be affected if such resources were not available, etc.

In addition, a committee of researchers and clinicians was formed to give valuable input and insight into the initial decisions. We have attempted to maintain a balance that meets the critical needs of our researchers, clinicians, and students within the limits imposed by our future budgets.

Blackwell Journals Moving to Wiley Interscience - Some Downtime Expected

As part of the merger of Blackwell Publishing with John Wiley and Sons, the publishers will combine all Wiley-Blackwell's online products onto a single online platform. As of June 30, 2008, all Blackwell Synergy journal content and access rights will be moved to Wiley InterScience, and at that point Synergy will cease to be available. John Wiley plans to launch a next-generation online service in 2009 that will include the best features of both Blackwell Synergy and Wiley InterScience and which will introduce innovative new functionality and capabilities.

Over the weekend of June 28th and 29th, 2008, there will be a period when both Blackwell Synergy and Wiley InterScience will be unavailable to all users while the publisher transitions and re-indexes data.

If you have registered as an individual on Blackwell Synergy, please go to http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/aboutus/wiley-blackwell/transition_end-users.html
for more information.
If you have any questions, please call the Library at 713-7100.
